• The AWCZ consists of over 400 members from a diverse range of ages, background and experiences.

Meet The Board

The American Women’s Club of Zurich is governed by a board of seven elected officers and five appointed standing committee chairs. In addition, numerous special or ad hoc committee chairs are appointed, as necessary, for special projects and other Club activities and operations.


AWCZ 2013–2014 Executive Officers

President:     Lyndy Swansson
Oversees activities of board officers and acts as official spokesperson of the Club

Lyndy moved to Switzerland over two and half years ago from the United States. Although originally from Australia, she has also lived in Washington, DC and Dallas Texas. Her truly international family includes a daughter living in London, one daughter in Dallas, TX and a son in Newcastle, Australia. The AWCZ has been a very welcoming organization helping her adjust to a new country. Lyndy steps into the President role after serving as membership chair for the past year in addition to The Round Robin production manager.  She enjoys attending excursions, newcomer functions and playing bunko.

VP Clubhouse Operations:     Constance Wahab 
Oversees Clubhouse operations and administration

Born in New York City, Constance has lived in Connecticut, New Jersey, Texas, Iowa and Arizona.  Overseas assignments included the Netherlands, Sweden and England.  She and her husband moved to Zurich in 2009.  She was Director of Marketing Communications for EDS and worked at Trinity Cathedral in Bettendorf, Iowa.  While living in Stockholm she worked as a VECTA volunteer with the IRS and as a tax preparation volunteer in Tucson, AZ.  She enjoys playing bridge, hiking and opera here in Switzerland.  At the American Women's Club, Constance volunteers in the library and helps out with the coffee mornings.  She and her husband have a grown daughter living in the US and a Cairn terrier traveling with them here in Switzerland.

VP Public Relations & Communications:     Jean Froehlich
Oversees all Club public relations, communications & marketing activities

Jean moved to Switzerland from Indianapolis, Indiana, in August 2007. She and her husband, Bill, have two children: Rachael, a recent graduate of Purdue University, and son Tyler, who is attending the University of Zurich.  Jean has a master's in Communication Information and Computer Science and over 20 years of data communication experience, most recently working for AT&T Global Sales before arriving in Switzerland. She and her husband love to travel and enjoy living here in Zurich.  Jean has served on the Board for 18 months and enjoys the Club, working on the website, volunteering to help in other ways around the Clubhouse, and being a part of the "American family away from home".

VP Member Relations & Activities:     Vicki Taber 
Promotes and oversees member involvement in Club events, activity groups and volunteer opportunities

Vicki and her husband arrived in Zurich in November 2011 on their first expat assignment. With all of the challenges that come with living in a foreign country andnot speaking the language, the AWCZ has made the transition much easier providing a wonderful avenue for making friends and seeing the many beautiful sites Switerland has to offer. Originally from upstate New York, Vicki has lived in Florida, Texas and for the past 22 years in South Carolina.

Secretary:     Joan Stewart
Maintains minutes, reports, and other correspondence of all board and Club meetings

Treasurer:     Katie Fox 
Coordinates all Club financial transactions, reporting, budget and auditing activities

Katie grew up in Berkeley, CA and Sweden.  She has 3 children, two of whom live here in Zurich.  Katie studied at Macalester College, Columbia University and the Thunderbird School of Global Management. She has a BA in Mathematics and worked as an Actuary in Sweden and in Germany.  Katie has lived in California, Minnesota, NY, New Jersey, Arizona, Nevada, Sweden, Germany and England. She arrived in Zurich Aug 2011 and is already volunteering in the library and with the Treasury team.  Katie’s interests include biking, hiking, skiing, sewing and knitting. She has also danced in ballet companies and taught Tap Dance.


AWCZ 2013-14 Standing Committee Chairs

FAWCO Representative:  Kelly Fitzgerald
Serves as liaison between AWCZ and global organization Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas

After receividng her PhD in gerontalogy in Boston and working in Swansea, Wales, Kelly moved to Zurich with her husband in 2009.  The club has been a great way for her to meet poeple and learn about her new home.  In addition to supporting Club FAWCO activities, Kelly serves as a FAWCO UN representative and assistsw with Salt & Pepper activities while also teaching online courses for Western Kentucky University and contract research on aging for numerous organizations.

Living In Zurich Program Chair:  Open
Coordinates the annually presented orientation program for newcomers of all nationalities

Library Chair:  Clare Ardley
Overseas all operational aspects of AWCZ library

Clare and her husband have lived in Switzerland for five years.  Her grown children live int he US.  No newcomer to volunteering at the AWCZ, Clare served as Board secretary for three years before stepping into the Library chair role in 2011.  In addition to running the library, she also assists with Round Robin production and enjoys excursions, lunch bunch, book group, bridge and attending coffees.

Manages Club membership database and membership inquiries

Round Robin Chair:  Sue McKenna
Overseas all operational aspects of producing Club Round Robin magazine

Sue arrived in Switzerland over a year ago and is delighted to call Zurich her home.  She happily brings her editorial background to the Round Robin managing editor role.

welcomes new AWCZ members to the Club and Zurich

Member to Member Care Team:  Pat Crowley & Elizabeth Lopez-Rigaudeau
provides assistance for AWCZ members in emrgency or crisis situations

Kids Corner:  Jennifer Schluchter
coordinates family oriented programs and activities for AWCZ members

PHASE (Philanthropy & Social Engagement):  Barbara Tengito & Elizabeth Lopez-Rigaudeau
identifies community service and philanthropic opportunities in the greater Zurich areas for AWCZ members and their families

Scheduling:  Cindy Toole
coordinates scheduling of Clubhouse rooms for AWCZ and external organization usage
