The Fitness Walkers meet every Thursday morning (rain or shine!) at 9:30 a.m. at Bellevue. Every week we explore different areas around the city of Zürich: sometimes we enjoy walking along the lake or along one of the rivers that wind through our beautiful city; sometimes we explore one of the many neighborhoods.

No matter where we go, we always enjoy walking and talking with each other! After the walk, we'll often grab a coffee or lunch somewhere nearby.

Please feel free to contact Patti at fitnesswalk@awczurich.org if you want to join us!

Make sure to check messages in the AWCZ Walking WhatsApp group for possible schedule changes over the summer months.

Vinyasa Yoga (Level 1: Beginner's Yoga)
    What is yoga?
Contrary to the belief that yoga is for flexible people, yoga is for every BODY.
All it requires is curiosity and a willingness to meet your body in the present moment. Whether you are new to the practice or an avid practitioner, all are welcome into this yoga sanctuary.

Together we will create a community of yogis where we will explore the mind-body connection while covering basic concepts and postures in the yoga tradition. The takeaway? Greater mind-body awareness, body alignment and embodied presence (among others).

She has a particular passion for children’s nutrition and the role food plays in supporting lifelong health. Annasole designs and leads workshops, private classes, and retreats that explore food as medicine, with a focus on nourishing the body and positively influencing epigenetic responses. Her work blends science, practical cooking, and education to empower individuals and families to thrive through intentional eating.

    Nervous System Regulation through

    Red Light Therapy & Mindfulness

    by Dina Holzapfel

This workshop explores how regular red light therapy sessions can support the brain and nervous system in returning to a state of balance, safety, and optimal function.

We’ll focus on the nervous system as the control center of the body - how chronic stress, inflammation, and overstimulation keep the brain locked in survival mode, and why this directly affects sleep, mood, focus, emotional regulation, and long-term health.

Participants will learn how red light therapy interacts with the body on a cellular level, supporting mitochondrial function and cellular energy (ATP production) - particularly in neurons, which are among the most energy-demanding cells in the body. Improved cellular energy allows the brain to regulate itself more efficiently, reducing stress load and enhancing resilience.

We’ll also discuss how red light therapy can help reduce neuroinflammation, improve cerebral blood flow, and support nervous system recovery - creating the conditions for a calmer baseline, improved cognitive clarity, and a more regulated stress response.

We’ll dive into why regular sessions matter, how repeated nervous system down-regulation retrains the brain over time, and how this can shift someone out of chronic fight-or-flight and into a more stable parasympathetic state.

This workshop connects neuroscience, nervous system regulation, and modern red light therapy - offering a grounded, accessible understanding of how calming the nervous system is not a one-time event, but a trainable biological process.

Join Dina Holzapfel, CEO of red. - the world’s first elite red light therapy and mindfulness studio. With a background in engineering, neuroscience and entrepreneurship Dina bridges science, longevity and personal development with her mission to support you in living your best life.

    Your Symptoms Have a Story:

Inflammation, Hormones & Healing the Female Body

    by Dr. Shirin Hund

Your body isn’t broken — it’s asking for support!

Many women live with constant fatigue, stubborn weight changes, brain fog, bloating, disrupted sleep, painful cycles, or mood shifts — often being told that this is “normal,” stress-related, or simply part of aging. In this talk, Dr. Hund will reveal how hidden inflammation, toxic load, and chronic stress uniquely affect the female body, quietly disrupting hormones, metabolism, and the nervous system.

You’ll learn how women’s biology — from the menstrual cycle to perimenopause and menopause — requires a more nuanced, intelligent approach to detoxification and healing.

This workshop is for women who want to:
-feel clear, energized, and emotionally balanced again
-understand what their symptoms are really telling them
-support their hormones without extremes or guesswork
-invest in long-term health, vitality, and graceful longevity

Join Dr. Shirin Hund, physician and founder of Virgil Health and lead physician for Chenot Palace Weggis's Body Insights and Optimisations Program, for an empowering workshop dedicated to women’s health, hormones, and long-term vitality. Dr. Hund will show you how to reduce inflammation, support hormonal balance, and help the body regain its natural rhythm, energy, and resilience.

Join us for our monthly Women’s Circle for connection and support.

A women’s circle is a safe space for women to come together, to share, connect, support, and empower each other. It is a space where each woman is held, heard, and supported.

Gathering in circle is an ancient tradition that helps us follow our internal wisdom to find what we need to heal and grow. It allows us to create common understanding amongst women, free of judgement.

Each circle has a specific theme such as self-love, gratitude, intuition, resilience. We include elements of breathwork, meditation, movement, music and sometimes a small craft or other activity. It’s a place where you can switch off, relax and focus on yourself all while enjoying the connection and support of other women.

Come as you are: Wear what you are comfortable in or what makes you feel beautiful.

    Cost: Free or Donation Based
    Registration/Cancellation Deadline: February 27, 2026

The women’s circle is offered on a free or donation-based model.
If you are able, I welcome donations to help cover the basic costs of materials. Donations could be made via cash or Twint

Swiss Hiking 101: Your Crash Course to Hiking the Swiss Alps

    by Alexandra Bornhoft

Designed for locals who want to start exploring Swiss trails but aren't sure where to begin, this practical session covers: how to read Swiss trail signage and understand difficulty ratings, use essential hiking apps, and find hikes that match your level and interests. We'll also cover the mountain hut system and planning hut-to-hut hikes, and address common concerns like hiking solo or fear of heights. Whether attendees are new to hiking or just new to hiking in Switzerland, they will leave with practical tools and the confidence to explore Switzerland's incredible trails independently.

    Time for Q&A included.

Alex Bornhoft is the founder of The WanderWeGo Co (www.thewanderwegoco.com), a hiking consultancy based in Zurich. Since relocating to Switzerland in 2018, she has completed hundreds of hikes and dozens of hut-to-hut treks across the Swiss Alps. Alex specializes in helping expats and travelers plan personalized hiking adventures through custom itineraries and consultations. Her approach combines detailed route planning with practical education on Swiss trail systems, mountain hut culture, and essential navigation tools. Alex is passionate about helping people step outside their comfort zones and experience the local side of Switzerland with authentic alpine adventures.

The Evening Wine & Cheese & Book Club meets (usually) on the second Tuesday of every month, except in August. We are a diverse group of people from all corners of the AWCZ who enjoy reading and discussing books of all genres; past reading lists have included memoir, Pulitzer Prize-winning literary fiction, YA fantasy, essay collections, genre/ speculative fiction, middle grade, thriller, romance, literature in translation, and more. Special events include our light-hearted "Filthy February," when we read a romance novel and fill out romance-trope-themed Bingo cards (for a prize!), and our annual Fourth of July Beach Read Yankee Swap.

We decide our reading list via discussion and survey, five books at a time. Our 2026 Spring / Summer reading list is:

    March: To be announced
    April: To be announced

    May: To be announced

    June: To be announced

    July: To be announced

The best way to learn about our activity is to simply show up! We love welcoming new faces, and will be happy to answer any questions you have. Haven't read the book? As long as you don't mind spoilers, it's not a problem. We also begin every meeting with a potluck social hour, so feel free to bring something to share!

*Non-AWCZ-members: membership in our book club is contingent on membership to the AWCZ, but you are welcome to attend a book club meeting as one of your free “taster” activities. Please see the membership section of this website to learn about how to join the AWCZ.*

    Cost: Free or Donation Based
    Registration/Cancellation Deadline: April 10, 2026

The women’s circle is offered on a free or donation-based model.
If you are able, I welcome donations to help cover the basic costs of materials. Donations could be made via cash or Twint
