The American Women’s Club of Zurich is privileged to maintain one of the largest English-language libraries in the Zurich area. Fully volunteer run for over 85 years, the Library at our Clubhouse features an extensive collection of fiction, nonfiction, and audiobooks for all ages.
Usage of the library is included in an AWCZ membership.
Weekday Opening Hours
The library is located at our Clubhouse at Höschgasse 38, 8008 Zürich. It normally has the following hours:
Starting the week of June 20th and until August 17th, the library will have summer hours and only be open Wednesdays from 10:00-13:00.
We are closed on all Swiss public holidays.If the Covid situation changes in Switzerland please check the AWCZ website or the E-blast, as the opening hours of the library may change.
What's on the shelves
collection includes over 7,500 books and audiobooks for our patrons. For adults, we have award-winning fiction and nonfiction, travel books, biography, classics, reference materials, and a Swiss themed section. For children, we have many picture books, easy readers, juvenile and young adult fiction, along with nonfiction with an extensive US history selection. Audio books on CD for all ages are also available.
New items are added throughout the collection each month, with special features for holidays. Members can request specific book purchases for the library.
Friends Of The Library Subscribers
Individuals wishing to use the AWCZ Library but not eligible for AWCZ membership may become Friends of the Library subscribers. A 12-month subscription is CHF 75. Stop by during regular opening hours to complete an application or for more information. Please contact the Friends of the Library Coordinator for any questions.
Our Library Staff
The AWCZ Library is fully staffed by a team of volunteers. On an ad hoc basis, volunteers are asked to assist with special Library projects. Interested in helping out in the library? You must be an AWCZ Member or "Friend of the Library" to volunteer, and we welcome new volunteers at any time.
