How to Read Poetry
by Leenie Moore
This workshop demystifies poetry by returning it to its roots as one of the oldest and most universal forms of human expression. Poetry isn’t a puzzle to be solved or an elite art form—it’s a natural way of giving shape to thought, feeling, and experience. Through approachable examples, guided discussion, and gentle writing exercises, participants will discover that everyone has the capacity to understand, enjoy, and engage with poetry. Whether reading or writing, this session invites curiosity, confidence, and a renewed appreciation for the power of simple, well-chosen words.
Ellene Glenn Moore is an American writer living in Zurich. She is the author of the forthcoming lyric essay collection
Provenance (Seneca Review Books), winner of the 2026 Deborah Tall Lyric Essay Prize, as well as How Blood Works, winner of the Stan and Tom Wick Poetry Prize, and Passage, winner of the Orison Chapbook Prize for Nonfiction.
